Abstract.
This study sought to evaluate media and telecommunication competencies possessed by Office Management and Technology (OTM) graduates in Private Industries in Rivers State. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. Two research questions guided the study, while two hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The population of the study consisted of 140 supervisors. There was no sampling because the population was not too large. The entire population was studied. A self-made questionnaire was the main instrument for data collection. The instrument was validated by three experts. The reliability coefficients of the instrument were 0.71 and 0.84 respectively. The mean and standard deviation were used to analyze the data in respect of the research questions, while ANOVA was used to test the hypotheses. It was found that respondents possessed both media and telecommunication competencies at a low extent. The researchers’ conclude that respondents can hardly perform in the private industries. it is recommended that managers of the private industries should provide adequate technological resources, technical and administrative support to encourage OTM staff to successfully use ICT in the office.
