Abstract.

This paper examined the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs ). Challenges and strategies for its attainment in Nigeria by 2030. Sustainable Development is the Development that meets the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of the future generations to meet their own needs. Therefore Sustainable Development Goals, are set of goals that will guide the attainment of sustainable development in the world. SDGs emerged as a continuation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) which started in 2000. Also bearing in mind that the MDGs were not achieved or attained by 2015 deadline. The Sustainable Development Goals were articulated by Inter-agency and Expert Groups organized by the United Nations. It was on September 25th 2015, that the countries of the world adopted it for implementation for the next 15 years (2016-2030) with 17 goals and 169 targets. Some challenges envisage to hinder its attainment in Nigeria include, late release of fund, corrupt government officials, very poor terrain of most communities and bureaucratic bottlenecks among other things. The paper recommended among other things that Government should sensitize both the public and private sector organizations, Non-Governmental organization and Civil society groups by giving them financial support on the activities that promote human development and well being which is the key of SDGs.
